Fluxtrol and ASM International Announce the 2022 Winners of the Academic Researchers Award and Fluxtrol Student Research Awards

Professor Kip Findley, Adanma Akoma, Michael Rupinen Jr., and Rupesh Rajendran win prestigious awards at IMAT 2022

Detroit, January 24th /BusinessWire/ - Fluxtrol Inc. and ASM International are pleased to announce the winners of the 2022 Prof. Valentin S. Nemkov Academic Research Award and Fluxtrol Student Research Awards. Congratulations to Professor Kip Findley for winning the Prof. Valentin S. Nemkov Academic Research Award and to Adanma Akoma, Michael Rupinen Jr., and Rupesh Rajendran for winning 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, respectively, in the Fluxtrol Student Research Awards.

The prestigious awards were presented during the IMAT 2022 held September 12-15, 2022 in New Orleans, LA.

Prof. Valentin S. Nemkov Academic Research Award

Professor Kip Findley, Colorado School of Mines

Professor Kip Findley, through his role with the Colorado School of Mines, contributed to excellent academic research in the area of thermal processing of materials.

Professor Findley will receive $2,500 from ASM International that can be used to support research activity at the Academic Researcher’s Institution. The award can be used for travel expenses, conference fees, scholarship money, or laboratory equipment at the discretion of Professor Findley to help support his team’s continued research efforts.

The Prof. Valentin S. Nemkov Academic Research Award is Fluxtrol Inc’s annual recognition program for Post-Doctoral Researchers, Lecturers and Professors (Academic Researchers) that is presented annually at either IMAT or the ASM Heat Treating Society Conference & Expo for the researcher that had the greatest impact on the event in the area of thermal processing of materials.

The next award will be given at IMAT 2023, scheduled for September 16-19 in Detroit, Michigan. Candidates are required to be present at IMAT 2022 and the winner will be announced at the event.

Fluxtrol Student Poster Competition

Congratulations to the following student winners whose research was deemed by judges to be of extraordinary quality and impact on the field of thermal processing:

1st Place – Adanma Akoma, University of Connecticut - De-coupling Case-Core Flow Stress Behavior in Carburized AISI 9310 Steel. She received a $2,500 award.

2nd Place – Michael Rupinen Jr., Colorado School of Mines. - Modeling Autotempering Effects on Microstructure and Properties in Large Section Sizes. He received a $1,000 award.

3rd Place – Rupesh Rajendran, Georgia Institute of Technology - Optimizing Thermal Processing of Additively Manufactured 7050-based Aluminum Alloy for High Corrosion Resistance. He received a $500 award.
