Induction tube welding is a key method for the continuous production of metallic tubes, often employing an internal magnetic flux controller, known as an impeder, to enhance process efficiency.

Traditionally, these impeders are constructed from ferrites. However, when welding small tubes (with an outer diameter of less than 1.5 inches), these ferrite materials can become saturated, resulting in a notable decline in process efficiency. This saturation presents an opportunity to replace the ferrite impeder with a Soft Magnetic Composite (SMC) material, which can significantly boost process efficiency.

Both theoretical and practical studies have shown that transitioning from a conventional ferrite impeder core to an SMC core can lead to substantial energy savings and increased productivity. Energy savings in these trials have typically ranged from 20% to 50%. Additionally, this switch can enhance production speeds, improve metallurgical quality, and allow for a reduction in impeder size, thereby minimizing the risk of mechanical loss.
